My Story: Aviana's journey so far. Aviana Steingart was two years old, on her way to her third birthday, when she was diagnosed with ependymoma, a rare brain cancer. After nine hours of surgery to remove a tumor measuring 2.4 by 3 centimeters, she woke a three-year-old, and she was scared. She met that fear with the things she loves: dinosaurs, unicorns, butterflies. Photos of Ava with family and friends, Hassenfeld Children's Hospital in Manhattan, and the gold ribbon.
